A heart specialist who previously managed the healthcare of former Vice President Dick Cheney has called on Congress to examine President Donald Trump’s mental acuity. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, an experienced cardiologist and well-known public figure, justified his request by highlighting public statements and communications from the president that he finds troubling.

This appeal followed Trump’s release of a statement to European leaders detailing his personal opinions on America’s foreign policy objectives. In a recent letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump linked his failure to secure the Nobel Peace Prize to his political aspirations concerning Greenland. He expressed his shift in focus from peace to what benefits the United States, citing his belief that annexing Greenland is crucial for global security.

Dr. Reiner responded to the letter by raising concerns, suggesting it should prompt a bipartisan congressional investigation into the president’s fitness for office. He also criticized Trump’s recent endorsements and decisions, expressing doubts about his priorities and putting personal interests ahead of the country’s well-being.

The doctor’s apprehensions regarding Trump’s health and ability to lead are not new. Earlier this year, he challenged Trump’s comments about his health regimen, particularly his use of aspirin to prevent blood clots. Dr. Reiner clarified that anticoagulants do not “thin” the blood but rather reduce clotting risk, contrary to Trump’s understanding.

Throughout his political career, Trump has consistently maintained his good health, with his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, confirming regular scans showing no anomalies.
