For a generation raised on Sony Walkmans and double denim, the name B*Witched is synonymous with some great fashions and some extremely catchy songs. But, unlike many of their 90s counterparts, the Irish girl group is still going strong – and released some new music just a few months ago.

The 90s were filled with big band splits, from Take That to The Verve – although some later reconciled, for many the days of pop stardom were over. But that wasn’t the case for B*Witched who recently marked their 25th anniversary with new music.

Going back nearly three decades, the girl group dominated the charts with their breezy, upbeat tunes, including debut C’est la Vie. Their first four singles went straight to number one. But success was sadly short-lived – and in 2002 the band, comprised of Lindsay Armaou and twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch and Sinéad O’Carroll, disbanded.

For ten years all was quiet – until 2012 when ITV’s The Big Reunion did the public service of reuniting the legendary quartet. In an interview after the reunion, Lindsey spoke to The Express about deciding to come back.

She said: “So it was a bit of a fork in the road. And it was like, ‘Do I say no and continue down this path that I’m going on, or do I dive back in and see where that goes?’ sort of thing.

“So it was a weird, weird moment actually because it was quite a big decision. But ultimately, you know, we decided to get back together as the group, and we’re longer together this time than we were the first time, which is bizarre, which is mad.”

Last year they released EP Ripped Jeans – a nod to their textbook denim look. The album is full of their classic catchy tunes, but with a slightly more mellow, contemporary tone.

In a statement on the EP, featuring new track So Into You, the band revealed: “So Into You sets the supercharged dance-pop addictiveness to the max as B*Witched launch a powerful contemporary sound that’s so fresh and full of the vibrancy that they’re renowned for. It may well be a quarter of a century since B*Witched first shot to superstardom, but So Into You shows that they have lost none of their youthful zest from the first time around.”

The release was met with a generally positive fan reaction, and although it’s not known if the band is currently working on any more music. One thing for sure – B*Witched is well and truly back.
