Gardening fans have been singing the praises of an “excellent quality” palm plant that currently has £30 off. The Trachycarpus fortunei – better known as a windmill palm – are said to be one of the best choices for Brits thanks to them “proving to be very tough, hardy and reliable even in the coldest British winters”.
The product has been snapped up on Gardening Express by fans of the outdoors who’ve been looking to get their gardens spring ready. It’s usually priced at £79.99 but has been discounted to £49.99. The plant should measure 100-120cm and is provided with 7-10 litre containers with a nice trunk forming.
It’s a very beautiful plant that adds a tropical feel to any garden, patio or courtyard. And even better, it’s evergreen, so it won’t lose its leaves over the colder winter months.

If you aren’t familiar with Gardening Express, it’s an online website that sells a variety of plants and equipment and speaking about ensuring quality control, the company says: “We are continuously checking the quality of our stock and have regular inspections from DEFRA to ensure that your plants will all be pest and disease free when they leave us.”
Primrose is another online retailer that sells established plants for delivery. Another type of palm, the Cordyline Australis Torbay Dazzler, is priced there at £27.99 in a two-litre pot or £63.99 in a 7.5-litre pot.
Cordylines do best in full sun or partial shade and can develop into small trees after several years of growth. I have also picked up similar plants at low prices in the likes of Home Bargains and B&M’s in-store outdoor areas, so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled if you’re out and about on a shopping trip.
Speaking of the windmill palm on Gardening Express one customer said: “Excellent quality plant, well packed and arrived in perfect condition, on time.”
Another continued: “Description and size were precise so knew what to expect. Very well boxed so arrived in good condition (no broken bits). Delivered within the timescale and courier updated on approximate time of delivery on day. Palm now sitting happily in larger pot on my patio. This is my second purchase so would consider buying from you in the future.”
A third went on: “Once again no problems with order and a great looking palm. Only got 4 plants in the garden and they all came from GE. Starting a tropical/jungle style garden from scratch so will be ordering again.”
Of the 29 reviews left to date there haven’t been any that have left a negative score, two gave four stars rather than the full five out of five, though didn’t elaborate on any issues. It’s worth pointing out that some customers have expressed disappointment with Gardening Express on TrustPilot where the company averages 4.3 out of 5.
One of those who wasn’t too thrilled said: “First palms that were delivered were good quality but disappointed in the second delivery of plants …looking rather tired.”
