A teenage girl was stabbed to death and later found on a hiking trail just weeks after celebrating her birthday, with people comparing her murder to the Netflix show Adolescence.

Abbriella Elliot, of Flordia, USA, tragically died after she was “violently” attacked with a suspected “edged weapon”. She was discovered by a hiker close to the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead on the morning of March 27.

Police have since arrested Cameron Cubel, 16, in connection with her murder. An official from the Hernando County Police Department believes it was a targeted attack.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said: “We could tell pretty quickly that there was a lot of passion and a lot of violence involved in the particular death.

“So we were relatively confident that it wasn’t a random act. It was nothing short of very violent.”

He added: “We were relatively confident almost immediately that she went to go meet an individual who was likely the person who killed her.”

According to local media, her parents said Cameron and Abbriella used to date but they split up around six to eight months ago.

Abbriella’s grandmother told the Hernando Sun : “My granddaughter Abby didn’t have a chance to grow into what you’re supposed to be. Her ex-boyfriend took that from her.”

Her mother, Danyel Caltagirone, said: “She could put a smile on anybody’s face. Everyone who met her, she left an impact on.” The victim’s stepfather Leo Lind, paid an emotional tribute and said: “The light she brings to people, her smiles, she’s just fun to be around.

“I’m just so happy, and I know she’s here with us and she saw the turnout.” The gruesome murder has drawn similarities to Netflix series, Adolescence, which sent shockwaves across the globe, reports Mail Online.

The four-part series highlighted violence against women by following the character Jamie Miller, who was accused of killing his classmate Katie.

The show has since prompted important discussions about education in schools.
