Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash have a blazing row on tonight’s instalment of Stacey & Joe – and it’s all over baked beans. The new BBC show features the married couple at their enormous Tudor-style Essex home, which they call Pickle Cottage , with their children Zachary, 17, Leighton, 12, Rex, five, Rose, three, and Belle, two, plus their dogs Peanut and Teddy.

But tonight’s episode sees their harmony disrupted when Joe lets the children eat baked beans on the sofa. It comes as Joe is away filming a new TV show and the pair have a blazing row over the phone with Joe eventually hanging up. The row starts to escalate when Joe tells Stacey he has been expecting her to call and apologise to him all day.

Flabbergasted, Stacey says, “Wow,” before adding, “The argument was I came home and thought I’m going to tidy the front room because the front room is a s***hole and all over my sofas was beans!”

Angrily, Joe insists it wasn’t as bad as that, replying, “Nope, how many baked beans were on the sofa?”

Not backing down, Stacey replies, “About 10 baked beans!” Annoyed, she tells him that she would never give the kids beans on the sofa.

But Joe is unhappy and retorts, “I’m not you! You go on as if you’ve never ever given those kids food in the front room, which would be a lie!”

Stacey is unimpressed. She shoots back, “I might give them a biscuit on the sofa but I would never sit there and give them beans on toast on the sofa.”

But Joe insists he was only trying to help, saying, “Your reaction to me giving the kids beans on toast on the sofa is an overreaction. You’re out of order Stace. I spent the day looking after the kids. I cooked them lunch…”

However, Stacey can’t see his point of view. She tells him, “You’re a dad. That is a normal thing to do is to have your kids…”

The row comes while Joe is staying in a hotel room, miles away from his family. Visibly upset, he hangs up on Stacey, telling her, “I’ll speak to you later. I’m done. I’m done with this conversation, have a lovely evening Stace.”

Stacey is devastated and remains upset about the row – and her sofa. Later she tells the cameras, “It’s not just the beans. The beans are like the icing on the cake of all the things I have to go around and pick up….”

The first episode of the six-part series ran last week and also saw the couple have a row – with fans blaming Joe. Stacey was left upset after Joe returned home five hours late after he had promised to be on time because Stacey had a work meeting. Fighting on TV is awkward but Joe thinks it’s important to show their highs and their lows. He previously told The Mirror : “So many people represent their lives as being so perfect on Instagram. It’s our responsibility to show the real – the highs and the lows. It’s not all a bed of roses. Sometimes we argue.”

Joe and Stacey believe that filming their arguments offers a chance for reflection. Watching back their own squabbles has given them insights into one another’s perspectives.

Stacey explains, “You might go to see somebody and talk through your relationship and they might give you advice, but you never get to witness when you’re bickering between each other. We found that really interesting. There’s definitely things in our communication where we’re like, ‘Wow, we could do that better. And we could talk about this more..’ It opens you up to the development of your relationship that you don’t always see, in everyday life, because a lot of the time you’re just trudging through to get to the next day.”

Motivated by their experiences on the show, Stacey reflects on her intentions for growth, conceding: “I am trying to pick my battles. Sometimes I will watch myself and go, ‘Oh, gosh, you didn’t really need to pick up on that.’ There’s bigger issues.”

While Joe has decided to try and be less defensive since filming the show: “Sometimes I need to sit back, I need to listen instead of being so defensive. The main thing I’ve learned is that I’ve just got the most amazing family and most amazing kids. They’re our little legacies.”

The second episode of Stacey & Joe will air on BBC One tonight at 8pm. Like this story? Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads .
