Katie Price has described her latest dilemma with one of her bespoke pets from a breeder. The I’m a Celebrity star shared that she had to rush her hairless cat to a vet after he had “humps” on his body and started breathing heavily – just a couple of weeks after calls for her to be banned from owning animals reached a new height.
Katie, 46, already a mother to five children – sons Harvey, 22, Junior, 19, and Jett, 11, and daughters Princess, 17, and Bunny, 10 – alongside a host of pets of many species.
The Celebrity Big Brother alum is reported to have had at least eight of her animals die under her care at her chaotic Mucky Mansion in West Sussex, but brushed off concerns from both fans and animal rights charities as she outlined yet another pet problem.
Speaking on her podcast The Katie Price Show alongside her sister Sophie, Katie moaned: “Yesterday I had a drama with the cat.”
Peter Andre’s ex outlined how Jerry, a Sphynx cat, recently started going outside to enjoy the warmth after being too cold to explore in winter, but then came back inside with terrifying symptoms.
“He started really crying and s**tting everywhere, I’m like, ‘What happened?’ And only on one side of him it looked like humps, all on one side of him,” Katie recalled.
“And he was really breathing heavy, so I called the breeder and said, ‘Why is he doing this?’ – because she knows loads about the Sphynxes, but even though I phoned her, I said, ‘Look, I’ve got to take him to the vet.’ She said, ‘Yeah, take him to the vet.’”
The singer then shared: “So, I take him to the vet, get there – it’s like when you take kids to the doctors – I get him out the box, the humps are gone.
“I just drove him all the way down there, got there, undo the box, he’s stopped breathing [weirdly], the humps have gone down. They check his temperature and he’s absolutely fine.”
While Katie thankfully divulged that Jerry got the all-clear despite his sudden illness, many people think she should have a complete blanket ban on pets – with a petition on change.org addressed to the RSPCA and PETA having gained over 37,000 supporters.
Even beyond the petition, PETA has already addressed Katie’s care of her animals, and last year vowed to give her £5000 cash if she signs a legal agreement promising not to buy another pet.
PETA’s Vice President Elisa Allen penned a public statement to Katie, begging: “While your intentions may be good, the ever-growing number of animals who have either died under your supervision or been given away is impossible to ignore, and people are rightly concerned.
“Whatever you may offer as reasons for their suffering, relinquishment, or demise, the fact is that you are consistently harming these sensitive, sentient individuals, and I hope you agree that this is a solution.”
