Brighton & Hove Albion has officially secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming season in the Premier League. The Canadian striker, previously with Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, will join Brighton on a season-long loan. There is an obligation to purchase David for a rumored $29.7 million US fee, subject to specific criteria being met.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will transition to the Premier League starting from the next season, marking a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. David, who excelled at Union with 41 goals in 82 matches, played a crucial role in the club’s first league title win in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union until June 2029 before making the move to Brighton.
The 25-year-old striker, a key player for Canada in the recent World Cup, netted one goal during the tournament despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, David’s international career has been on an upward trajectory since switching allegiance from Nigeria in 2025.
Hailing from Brampton, Ontario, Promise David kickstarted his professional journey in various countries such as Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before settling in Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, citing his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign.
Brighton, a consistent presence in the English top flight for nine seasons, concluded last season in eighth place in the Premier League standings. David’s arrival at the club is anticipated to bolster their attacking prowess and contribute to their ambitions in the upcoming season.
