In the midst of discussions surrounding Christopher Nolan’s interpretation of The Odyssey earlier this year, both critics and enthusiasts acknowledged Elliot Page’s exceptional performance in the film. Despite this acclaim, the Canadian actor revealed that he has not been contacted for any new roles following the movie’s success. Page disclosed this information during an interview on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy.
When questioned by host Kevin McCarthy about his future projects and the presumed influx of offers post-movie release, Page candidly responded, “No, Kevin, I’m not.” Renowned for his portrayal of the Greek soldier Sinon in The Odyssey, Page received accolades for his portrayal of the character who meets an untimely demise in Odysseus’s plot and later delivers a poignant monologue from the afterlife.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the film’s release, Page humorously addressed the criticism he faced for being Canadian, slyly alluding to the transphobic backlash from far-right figures when rumors circulated that he would portray Achilles in the movie. Notably, individuals such as Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, and Elon Musk incited uproar on social media over the notion of a transgender man playing the role, a controversy debunked by 2SLGBTQ+ advocates upon discovering Page’s actual character.
Page, who has a decorated acting career spanning back to his early years, including his notable roles in Juno, Inception, and Hard Candy, publicly came out as transgender in 2020. He has been an outspoken advocate against anti-2SLGBTQ+ rhetoric and policies, having signed an open letter in 2024 condemning discriminatory measures impacting gender-diverse individuals.
In a recent podcast episode, Page expressed his eagerness to continue acting, noting that the comfort he now feels post-transition has boosted his confidence in his craft. He emphasized the potential for delivering his best performances in this new chapter of his career. Additionally, Page reminisced about his experience working on Inception and The Odyssey, highlighting the personal growth he has undergone since transitioning.
Interestingly, Page is not the sole actor from Nolan’s epic to experience a lull in offers post-release. Samantha Morton, who portrayed Circe in the film, shared in a separate podcast interview that she has not secured any projects since The Odyssey. Morton, acknowledging the industry’s evolving dynamics, expressed acceptance of the changing landscape and its impact on actors, especially at her stage in the profession.
The challenges and triumphs faced by Elliot Page and Samantha Morton post-The Odyssey reflect the complex and competitive nature of the entertainment industry.
