John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the organization’s future direction.
Commencing on October 1, Tory’s term marks a significant milestone for TIFF, coinciding with this year’s festival scheduled from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in contributing to the festival’s evolution.
In addition to Tory’s appointment, TIFF welcomed three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for Daniere’s dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
