Steve Coogan, known for his role as Alan Partridge, has strongly criticized Reform UK, labeling Nigel Farage’s party as opposed to human rights. The actor, hailing from Greater Manchester, expressed concern over global leaders believing they can act with impunity during international conflicts.

In an interview with Big Issue, Coogan voiced his distress over the acceptance of certain behaviors in conflicts, referencing events in Gaza and military actions by the US. He highlighted his worries about the diminishing importance of human rights and criticized Reform UK for their stance against human rights, dismissing them as bureaucratic red tape.

Aside from his criticism of Reform UK, Coogan discussed the film “Saipan,” set to release on January 23, which delves into the infamous clash between former Ireland captain Roy Keane and ex-manager Mick McCarthy during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Coogan shared insights into the film’s narrative, emphasizing his desire for a more balanced portrayal of both characters. He acknowledged the merits on both sides, noting Mick’s intention to make the World Cup experience meaningful for the Irish players and people, contrasting with Roy Keane’s rebellion against the underdog narrative.

Recognized primarily for his portrayal of Partridge, the character that first appeared on television in The Day Today in 1994, Coogan has enjoyed success in various TV shows like Knowing Me Knowing You With Alan Partridge, I’m Alan Partridge, and How Are You? He also made his cinematic debut as Partridge in “Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa” and has featured in films such as “24-Hour Party People” (2002), “The Look Of Love” (2013), and “Stan And Ollie” (2018).

Reform UK has been approached for a response to Coogan’s comments. The full interview with Coogan is available in the current issue of Big Issue.
