Newly released documents reveal that Jeffrey Epstein once suggested to a close associate of Donald Trump that the President was anxious about their relationship. The US Justice Department recently made public three million documents, authorized by Trump, shedding light on conversations involving Epstein and his circle, including references to Trump.
One notable mention of Trump in the documents occurred during a discussion between Epstein and Steve Bannon, Trump’s former campaign CEO and White House strategist. The documents detail numerous friendly exchanges between Epstein and Bannon leading up to Epstein’s death in 2019.
Their conversations encompassed various topics such as politics, travel plans, and a potential documentary project aimed at improving Epstein’s reputation. In one message, Epstein commented to Bannon that Trump felt uneasy knowing about their friendship.
Although the documents contain redactions and lack clear organization, they also reference Trump in other exchanges. For instance, in 2018, Epstein corresponded with Kathy Ruemmler, a lawyer and former Obama administration official, expressing mixed views on Trump.
Trump, responding to the released documents, interpreted them as vindicating him and suggested taking legal action against Epstein’s estate and a critic, Michael Wolff, whom he accused of conspiring against him. The President asserted that the emails proved his innocence, contrary to expectations, and hinted at potential lawsuits against those he believed were trying to undermine him.
In a statement made while aboard Air Force One, Trump alleged a conspiracy between Wolff and Epstein to harm his reputation, signaling his readiness to pursue legal recourse. He emphasized that the content of the emails painted a favorable picture for him, contradicting the assumptions of his political adversaries.
