The United Kingdom is preparing for another harsh winter as new weather maps indicate an impending Atlantic storm set to bring snow, heavy rain, and strong winds across the country, affecting only a few regions.
According to the latest forecast charts by WXCharts, a fast-moving storm originating from the Atlantic is expected to hit the UK on Tuesday, January 27, at 6 pm. The map displays widespread snowfall in blue and purple shades, with heavy rain indicated by green and yellow bands.
Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and parts of the Midlands are forecasted to be covered in snow, especially in higher elevations. Meanwhile, Wales, central and southern England, including London and the South East, will experience persistent heavy rain with intermittent wintry showers.
A second map for 6 pm on January 27 shows areas in orange and red shades, highlighting powerful winds approaching. The coasts of Ireland, western Scotland, and northwest England are expected to face gusts exceeding 100mph.
Significant wind speeds of 70-90mph, extending even inland, are predicted for much of England and Wales. The most intense winds are anticipated over the Atlantic, potentially reaching speeds up to 110mph before weakening upon landfall.
While the impact will be widespread, only 10 counties, mainly in southwest England and west Wales, are likely to be less affected by the storm, escaping heavy rain or snow.
The long-range forecast by the Met Office from January 24 to February 2 suggests that the UK will be caught between competing weather systems, leading to periods of heavy rain, especially in the south and west. Colder conditions may bring snow to Scotland and northern England.
