The White House under Donald Trump has announced an impromptu press conference scheduled for today. The updated Daily Schedule reveals a briefing by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, although the specific topic remains undisclosed. This announcement comes amidst escalating outrage following the tragic shooting of an unarmed woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota.

Earlier today, a large crowd of demonstrators gathered outside an immigration enforcement center in St. Paul, Minnesota, in response to the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, by an ICE agent as she tried to flee in her vehicle.

The press conference is set to occur at 1pm in Washington DC, corresponding to 6pm UK time. Trump, in a post on Truth Social after the incident, falsely claimed that video footage showed the driver intentionally running over the ICE agent, who he erroneously stated was injured. Additionally, he asserted that the officer who fired the shots was hospitalized, despite no evidence supporting this claim.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, after viewing the video, denounced the dissemination of false information and rejected federal intervention, particularly criticizing the lack of protocol and premature assumptions made by Homeland Security officials regarding the incident.

Video evidence shows the sequence of events leading to the shooting, where the driver attempted to maneuver away from officers before being shot at close range, ultimately resulting in a fatal crash. Despite the chaotic nature of the situation, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem hastily labeled the event as an “act of domestic terrorism,” a statement disputed by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who condemned the use of excessive force by ICE officers.

Frey emphasized that the officers’ actions were not justified and asserted that public safety was compromised by their reckless behavior. The conflicting narratives between local authorities and federal agencies further complicate the unfolding events in Minnesota.
