West Ham United’s Konstantinos Mavropanos had to be carried off on a stretcher during the team’s FA Cup match against Queens Park Rangers due to a worrisome head injury. The incident occurred when Mavropanos collided with an opponent’s knee while contesting a corner in the QPR box just before halftime. Following a period of medical attention, a stretcher was brought onto the field to carefully transport the Greek defender off the pitch.
As Mavropanos was taken off, both sets of fans showed their support with applause. QPR quickly sent a message of well wishes to Mavropanos as he was being stretchered off. Mavropanos, who joined West Ham from Arsenal three years ago, was substituted by Pablo Felipe during the first half’s nine minutes of added time, with Crysencio Summerville scoring the winning goal during stoppage time.
Before the match, West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed hope that a successful FA Cup run could uplift spirits amid a challenging Premier League season. The Hammers, who had gone winless in their last 10 games, aimed to focus on their upcoming matches and not dwell on their current league position.
Santo stated, “We’re in a difficult situation, but we have many games remaining in the Premier League. Our priority now is to concentrate on our performance, secure the wins we need, and not be fixated on our position in the table. We will focus on the FA Cup before preparing for the upcoming match against Tottenham. Winning matches can change our momentum and mindset, and we are determined to succeed in this competition.”
Sky has announced a reduced price for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, offering savings of £192 and broadcasting over 1,400 live matches, including at least 215 live Premier League games, to its subscribers.
