O2, now a part of Virgin Media, has expanded its mobile network to bring the latest 5G Standalone technology to over 500 towns and cities in the UK. This upgrade offers faster and more reliable connectivity for tasks like streaming movies and making video calls on the go. Users with a 5G-ready phone and plan can enjoy enhanced 5G coverage, faster download speeds, and reduced latency at no extra cost.

The 5G Standalone network, as explained by O2, is a state-of-the-art end-to-end system that eliminates the need for reliance on older networks like 4G. This new infrastructure is set to enhance network reliability, extend coverage, and open doors to innovative digital experiences.

Virgin Media O2’s Chief Technology Officer, Jeanie York, emphasized the company’s commitment to investing in network improvements to provide a more dependable mobile experience. The 5G Standalone network now covers 70% of the population, with plans to expand further to enhance customer experiences and drive future innovations.

Notably, EE has also announced significant updates to its 5G network, introducing Advanced RAN Coordination (ARC) technology to deliver faster and more consistent 5G performance. This technology is set to boost download speeds, video streaming quality, and overall connection reliability for EE 5G users, demonstrating the company’s dedication to enhancing customer satisfaction.
