The Vancouver Rise have welcomed new players to their squad in preparation for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, from NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the team. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed confidence in the abilities both players bring to the team as they strive for a playoff spot.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League and France’s top division. She is known for her composure and vocal leadership on the field. On the other hand, Hansen, 26, hails from Burnaby, B.C., and is excited to be playing closer to her family.
The additions to the team come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue law school in New York. Additionally, Vancouver loaned goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Tides for the remainder of the season. The Rise are currently aiming to secure a playoff spot and are trailing behind Halifax in the standings.
Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the importance of this stage of the season, highlighting the team’s determination to showcase their competitiveness and make a return to the playoffs.
