Freely, a relatively new player in the UK streaming scene, is quickly gaining traction. Launched just last year, the free streaming service has now crossed the milestone of one million weekly users. This surge in users, which doubled since September, positions Freely as the fastest-growing TV platform in the UK for 2025.
Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, expressed excitement about this achievement, citing the demand for a convenient platform to stream live British TV and access on-demand shows. He emphasized how the collaboration among UK public service broadcasters has made British TV easily accessible through Freely.
While Freely still has ground to cover compared to giants like Sky and Freeview, the trend towards streaming and cost-effective alternatives may expedite its growth. Unlike Freeview, Freely operates solely through broadband connections, simplifying the setup process.
Offering features like live TV pause, tailored recommendations, and a comprehensive TV guide, Freely caters to a diverse audience. Initially limited to select TV models, it is now compatible with various brands like Hisense, Panasonic, Bush, and Sharp. Additionally, the introduction of Pleio, a streaming puck enabling Freely access on most TVs, signals further expansion opportunities.
Anticipated launches of additional set-top devices in the near future could enhance Freely’s market presence. The platform’s user-friendly interface and broadening device compatibility underscore its potential for continued growth in the evolving streaming landscape.
