Ukraine has declared its commitment to escalating fierce offensives against Russia following the Kremlin’s announcement of mobilizing over 400,000 additional troops for the front lines. Kyiv has recently achieved notable successes in striking Russian targets and disrupting Kremlin oil facilities.
In response, Russian military leaders have directed the formation of 11 new divisions this year to intensify efforts in their ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The total count of Russian troops planned for mobilization in 2026 stands at 409,000, with the potential for reinforcements from North Korea.
Ukraine’s strategy involves launching new attacks on Russian territory to draw critical resources away from the front lines. Commander in Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, emphasized the importance of offensive operations to maintain the initiative in the conflict.
The prolonged warfare has inflicted significant losses on Russia, with casualties exceeding a million troops due to death and injury. Ukraine’s actions have also severely impacted Russia’s oil-dependent economy and hindered the provision of essential services to civilians during harsh weather conditions.
Notably, some battlefronts have witnessed the loss of up to 1,000 Russian soldiers in a single day, as military tactics have led to high casualty rates. Despite receiving reinforcements from North Korea, Russian forces have faced challenges due to inadequate weaponry and equipment.
Furthermore, Ukraine’s special forces have successfully targeted Kremlin submarines through sabotage missions, further impeding Russia’s progress in the conflict. Syrsky highlighted Russia’s slow advancement in Ukrainian territories and emphasized Ukraine’s ability to resist and counter enemy offensives.
Russian military actions in 2025 resulted in the capture of a limited area of Ukrainian territory, representing a small fraction of the country’s total landmass. The cost of these operations to Moscow included a substantial loss of troops and resources.
Looking ahead, Ukraine remains focused on weakening the enemy and safeguarding strategic positions to pave the way for future military operations. The defense forces are determined to thwart aggressors’ plans and maintain the upper hand in the conflict.
