A woman from the United Kingdom who went missing from a sunbed on a beach in Greece has been discovered deceased by authorities, her husband has sadly disclosed.
Michele Bourda, aged 59, disappeared unexpectedly in Kavala, Greece, on August 1 while her husband Chris, aged 66, was asleep on Ofrynio beach. Reports indicate that her personal belongings were left behind on the beach, and when Chris woke up, she was nowhere to be found. The couple, hailing from Glasgow, were enjoying a two-week vacation and had gone for a swim before resting on nearby sun loungers.
Chris recently shared that law enforcement officers located his wife’s body on a small privately owned island named Fidonisi, approximately 40km away from the coastline where she was last seen. While the body is yet to be formally identified, authorities believe it to be Michele based on the tankini she was wearing when she disappeared last month. Chris mentioned that her body was discovered without a head, partially clothed, and partially consumed by fish. Officials informed Mr. Bourda that they are “99% sure” it is her.
Speaking to MailOnline, Chris expressed, “They have found her body. Sadly I was expecting this.” He criticized the harbor police for their delayed search efforts, stating, “It shouldn’t take them three hours to file a missing person’s report before initiating the search.” Chris recounted his last moments with Michele, highlighting her previous struggles with depression and anxiety.
Chris also criticized the Greek Police for their lack of promptness in responding to Michele’s disappearance. He recounted being laughed at when seeking help after realizing Michele was missing from the sunbed. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson stated, “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
The Mirror has reached out to Greek police for their input on the matter.
