As the New Year begins, millions of people in the UK ushered in 2026 with excitement. If post-Christmas blues have set in, you might be considering planning some time off or holidays for the upcoming months. One way to make the most of your time off is by scheduling annual leave around the bank holidays in 2026. Here is a comprehensive list of the bank holiday dates for the year.

As the first working Monday of the year approaches, drivers are being cautioned about potential breakdowns, with January 5 being labeled as “manic Monday” by the AA. The roadside assistance company anticipates over 22 million car journeys and advises motorists, particularly those whose vehicles have been inactive over the festive season, to conduct thorough checks on their cars.

According to the AA, last year saw a 27% increase in breakdown requests on the first working Monday compared to a regular Monday in February. Shaun Jones from the AA emphasized the stress of returning to work after the holiday season, highlighting the morning rush and potential traffic congestion. He stressed the importance of proactive car maintenance to avoid unnecessary breakdowns and frustrations during the commute.
