The UK is bracing for stormy weather as the Met Office issues a yellow thunderstorm warning for a significant portion of the country. The warning, effective from early morning until midday, covers areas including Gloucester, Bath, Salisbury, and Newport, impacting numerous communities.

People are urged to exercise caution as heavy rain, lightning, and hail are forecasted, potentially leading to challenging driving conditions and the risk of power outages, flooding, property damage, and transportation disruptions. A band of intense rain and thunderstorms is set to traverse the region, with localized areas expected to receive up to 40mm of rainfall accompanied by lightning and hail.

Meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer highlighted the windy conditions prevailing across the west, with coastal gales and strong winds anticipated throughout the day. While eastern regions may experience hazy sunshine, the west is likely to encounter heavy showers later in the afternoon. Additionally, a rare total lunar eclipse, known as the “blood moon,” is anticipated to be visible in parts of England and Wales on Sunday evening.

Following the eclipse, the weather outlook remains unsettled, with the Met Office predicting stormy conditions from September 11 to 20. The period is expected to commence with low pressure systems bringing showers and rain across the UK, particularly in western and northern regions. Thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds are possible, with potential improvements towards the end of the period, featuring drier spells and increased sunshine in southern areas. Temperature variations are expected, with overall averages slightly below normal but rising during sunnier intervals.
