A visually striking weather map indicates an upcoming increase in snowfall across select regions of the UK this week. Forecasters anticipate blizzards extending as far south as Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire from Thursday night into Friday morning. While temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild throughout the week, a sudden drop on Thursday will lead to snowfall in areas like south Wales, the Midlands, and portions of the Northwest of England.

Thursday evening is set to bring gales with speeds reaching up to 60mph, causing a significant chill, particularly along the west coast of Wales and the Lancashire coastline. Recent temperature spikes, like the high of 12.9C in Bude, Cornwall, will be followed by a decrease in mercury later in the week.

According to the Met Office website, Wednesday is projected to be dry and bright but chilly after a frosty start, with wet and windy weather advancing northeastward on Thursday and blustery showers expected on Friday.

Contrary to the official forecast, weather maps paint a more ominous picture, with a prominent white area across Wales, Lancashire, Cumbria, and parts of the Northeast of England indicating the impending snowfall. The Midlands is also likely to witness snow on Friday morning, as per meteorological predictions.

Analyzing data from the atmosphere and oceans, the Metdesk team anticipates rainy conditions elsewhere on Thursday night and Friday morning, including the Southwest of England. However, concerns arise as over 43mm of rain poured down in Tyndrum, Stirling, on Sunday, raising fears of potential flooding in various areas.

Multiple weather warnings and alerts are currently in effect, with a particular focus on areas like the River Teme at Stanford Bridge in Worcestershire, susceptible to the upcoming snowfall. The Environment Agency reports elevated water levels at locations such as the River Severn at Severn Ham in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, and the South Winterbourne Valley in Dorset.

Following the expected snowfall on Thursday and Friday, weather conditions are expected to remain changeable. The Met Office highlights the dominance of low-pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic, likely bringing showers or prolonged periods of rain to many regions, with the potential for heavy rain anywhere due to slow-moving low-pressure systems near the UK. Windy weather spells are also probable, interspersed with occasional drier, more settled periods, primarily towards the east.
