Twelve regions in the UK are preparing for significant snowfall and a drop in temperatures later this month, as indicated by the most recent weather data. Updated weather maps from forecasters WXCharts show that wintry conditions are set to move across the country on January 15.

The most intense snowfall is anticipated in central Scotland, with snow depths expected to reach up to 28cm in Cairngorms National Park. Northern and central parts of Scotland are likely to see snow accumulation ranging from 3cm to 27cm.

In southern Scotland, lighter snowfall of up to 2cm is forecast, while the Lake District is expected to experience around 1cm of snow. The coldest temperatures are expected in central Scotland, with temperatures dropping to a bone-chilling -8C in Cairngorms National Park. Cities in Scotland such as Aberdeen and Glasgow will experience temperatures ranging between -1C and -7C.

Northern England is expected to have temperatures ranging from 0C to -2C, while the rest of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will have milder conditions with temperatures between 1C and 5C, according to reports.

The Met Office’s forecast for the period states: “Changeable and occasionally unsettled conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic will dominate, leading to showers or longer spells of rain across much of the UK. Some heavy rain or showers are likely, especially in western high ground where rainfall totals may be highest. Periods of strong wind or gales are possible, particularly around coastal areas.”

The outlook also mentions that some brief periods of dry weather are expected between weather systems, with temperatures likely to be close to or slightly above average for this time of year.

Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland are all preparing for the upcoming weather changes.
