Major UK airlines are cautioning travelers about potential flight disruptions this weekend due to ongoing wintry conditions causing chaos across the country. Storm Goretti unleashed heavy snowfall and powerful 99mph winds earlier in the week, prompting the Met Office to issue multiple weather warnings that are expected to persist until Monday.

The Met Office has issued an amber snow alert for parts of Scotland, along with rain warnings in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Additionally, warnings for wind and ice are in effect, particularly affecting northern regions of the UK.

Jet2 has reassured passengers that they will endeavor to maintain flight schedules, but disruptions may occur if weather conditions deteriorate. The airline is closely monitoring the situation and advises passengers to adhere to their check-in schedules. In the event of flight disruptions, affected passengers will be contacted by the airline.

Ryanair has also provided an update, highlighting potential disruptions on Saturday due to de-icing procedures. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through the Ryanair app for real-time updates on their travel plans.

The impact of the adverse weather extends beyond the UK, as mainland Europe experiences plunging temperatures and severe conditions. Snowstorms and high winds hit France and Germany, while Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has canceled over 3,200 flights since the beginning of January due to snowy conditions in the Netherlands.

With up to 30cm of snow expected in parts of the UK on Sunday, the Met Office warns of possible flooding risks as snow melt combines with rainfall. Chief Forecaster Rebekah Hicks emphasized the transition to milder conditions on Sunday, bringing further snow accumulations and the potential for hazardous conditions, including freezing rain and flooding.

As multiple severe weather warnings remain in place, staying informed through local authorities and monitoring forecasts is critical to ensure safety and preparedness.
