Two separate crashes on the A130 in Essex resulted in police officers and paramedics being hospitalized.
Three police officers and two paramedics sustained injuries after a van collided with them while they were assisting at a previous road accident involving a Nissan X-Trail on the A130 at around 12:15 am on January 10. Essex Police confirmed that three individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incidents.
Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin expressed concern for the injured emergency workers and their families, noting that they are receiving support from the police force. He emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and urged the public to refrain from speculating, allowing the investigative teams to establish the facts surrounding both collisions.
Cronin added, “Those apprehended are currently in custody as we swiftly progress with our inquiries. We encourage anyone with information or potentially relevant dashcam footage of the vehicles involved to come forward to aid our investigation.”
Following the morning collisions, three individuals were arrested. A 23-year-old man from Canvey was taken into custody on suspicion of several offenses including causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence. Additionally, a 29-year-old man from Westcliff and a 39-year-old man from Canvey were also arrested on various charges related to the incidents.
Essex Police reported that one paramedic and one police officer sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The incident occurred when the paramedics and off-duty officers stopped to assist the initial crash involving the Nissan X-Trail, and a subsequent collision involving a white Ford Transit van ensued.
Motorists were advised to avoid the A130 section between Sadlers Farm roundabout and the A1245 due to the road closure resulting from the morning’s dual accidents.

Essex Police stated, “We are attending a serious collision on the A13, involving a single vehicle near Sadlers Farm roundabout in the early hours of January 10. Paramedics and off-duty police officers responded initially, and a subsequent collision led to injuries to two paramedics and three off-duty officers, all of whom were hospitalized.
“As we continue our work at the scene, we have closed the A130 stretch between Sadlers Farm roundabout and the A1245. We appreciate drivers’ patience and urge them to check for updates before traveling. Further information on road reopening will be provided throughout the day.”
