In a bold move, Donald Trump has reportedly considered offering $1 million to each resident of Greenland in a bid to gain favor and control over the island. This unprecedented proposal could potentially cost the US a staggering £42.5 billion, as Greenland has approximately 57,000 inhabitants. If they choose to become part of the United States, the $1 million offer equates to around £750,000 or €850,000.

Despite the hefty price tag, Trump, who oversees a defense budget of £595 billion, may view this gesture as a worthwhile investment. The President recently backtracked on his threat to impose tariffs on eight European nations to assert U.S. dominance over Greenland. He announced the scrapping of these tariffs and expressed a willingness to negotiate a deal on Arctic security with NATO.

Trump’s social media post indicated ongoing discussions about the Golden Dome missile defense program, a high-tech system valued at $175 billion that will deploy U.S. weaponry in space. Emphasizing the strategic importance of Greenland, Trump highlighted the historical support provided by the US to Europe during World War II. He described the request for Greenland as modest in comparison to the long-standing contributions of NATO.

While asserting the potential for overwhelming military force, Trump reassured that he preferred diplomatic solutions. This approach aligns with his recent efforts to engage in dialogue and negotiate terms regarding Greenland’s future.
