A tragic incident occurred when a man lost his life following the overboard situation involving two crew members of a fishing boat. The distress call was made on Sunday from a vessel located 14 miles off the shores of Newbiggin in Northumberland, prompting a large-scale emergency response effort.

The UK-registered boat named Fortitude issued the emergency call just before 4:20 pm, leading to swift actions from various emergency services including the RNLI, the Coastguard, the North East Ambulance Service, the Great North Air Ambulance Service, and Northumbria Police.

While one individual was rushed to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital for further medical attention, authorities confirmed the unfortunate passing of a man, with his family duly notified of the sad news.

Northumbria Police revealed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragic event, and they are actively cooperating with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch in their investigation.

Rescuers faced challenging conditions with 4-meter high waves as they responded to the distressed individuals in the water. Tynemouth RNLI representatives mentioned that both All-Weather lifeboat and RNLI – Amble Lifeboat Station were dispatched to the scene to aid the individuals overboard from the fishing vessel.

The Coastguard detailed that they received a distress signal just before 4:20 pm on Sunday, reporting two crew members overboard from a fishing vessel approximately 14 miles off the coast of Newbiggin, Northumberland. A coordinated effort involving multiple agencies was immediately initiated, including search and rescue helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and lifeboats from Amble and Tynemouth.

The North East Ambulance Service was also present at the scene, coordinating with RNLI rescue teams at Blyth Harbour and providing medical support for the injured individuals, with one person being transferred to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital for treatment.
