September has arrived, signaling upcoming financial adjustments coinciding with the shift in weather. Parents can look forward to an expansion of a free childcare scheme this month, offering significant benefits. Additionally, there are key deadlines to note, such as the Winter Fuel Payment and the necessity for energy meter readings before the Ofgem price cap changes.

Furthermore, keep an eye out for updates on inflation and Bank of England interest rates. Working parents with nine-month-olds will now have access to 30 hours of free childcare per week, up from the previous 15-hour threshold. Eligibility requirements include earning at least the national minimum wage for 16 hours weekly and an annual income below £100,000.

First Direct customers will no longer receive paper savings account statements post-September 1, transitioning to online statements. NatWest, Halifax, and Lloyds are set to close several branches this month. Most banks are adapting to the digital shift, leading to branch closures.

Regarding the Winter Fuel Payment, most eligible recipients will receive it automatically, while others may need to apply. The latest inflation data is set for release on September 17, showcasing a rise to 3.8%. The Bank of England’s next interest rates announcement is scheduled for September 18, with the current base rate at 4%.

Energy bills are expected to increase from October 1, emphasizing the importance of taking a meter reading around September 30 to prevent overcharges. Stay informed and prepared for these financial changes ahead.
