Rory McIlroy firmly stated his commitment to golf, dismissing any notion of transitioning to boxing due to his aversion to getting punched in the face professionally. This declaration followed his recent win of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, where he attended the Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul fight.

During an interview with the BBC at the boxing event, McIlroy unequivocally rejected the idea of pursuing a boxing career like some of his American counterparts. He expressed contentment with his current profession, stating, “No. Absolutely not. I’m very happy to play golf for a living. I don’t want to take punches for a living.”

A self-proclaimed fan of boxing, McIlroy predicted Joshua’s victory over Paul in the fight, citing Joshua’s advantages in reach, height, and experience. Despite a swift return to the United States after the awards ceremony, McIlroy left the trophy at home, emphasizing the hectic yet rewarding nature of his recent schedule.

McIlroy, who resides with his wife Erica Stoll in Jupiter Island, Florida, thanked his family and supporters after receiving the prestigious award. He expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the significance of his family’s unwavering support in his success. Looking ahead, McIlroy expressed hope for future challenges and opportunities in the coming year.
