A pub in West Dublin was targeted by a masked gunman last night, but quick-thinking patrons intervened to prevent any shots from being fired. Gardai responded to The 79 Inn in Ballyfermot after receiving reports of an armed man entering the premises. Witnesses said that the gunman was thwarted by customers who hurled a bar stool at him before he could shoot.

The individual believed to be the intended victim managed to escape while the brave pub-goers subdued the armed assailant, who was wearing a balaclava. The gunman fled the scene as police officers rushed to the area.

The incident is said to have stemmed from a verbal altercation earlier in the evening. Authorities confirmed that they are investigating the situation at a licensed establishment in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on the evening of January 10, 2026. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing, according to a statement from a garda spokesperson.
