Police have apprehended a suspect following an incident where an officer was reportedly attacked with a blade, resulting in facial lacerations. The arrested individual, a 25-year-old man, is being held on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.
The altercation occurred in the King Street area of South Shields, South Tyneside, during the midday hours of the day. Two officers encountered a person of interest in the vicinity, and when they approached him, he allegedly assaulted one of the officers with a bladed object, causing injuries to the officer’s face.
The injured officer received medical treatment at a hospital for minor wounds. As a precaution, there is an increased police presence in the town center to conduct investigations and provide reassurance to the public.
