O2, the renowned UK mobile network now under Virgin Media, is bringing some holiday joy to millions of customers this December by generously offering an extra 10GB of mobile data at no cost. This bonus, a valuable addition considering the increased mobility during this season, will be automatically included in eligible users’ monthly data allowance. The free 10GB will be visible in users’ accounts and the MyO2 app at some point this month, requiring no action on the users’ part other than checking their settings to confirm the addition.

The additional data comes with no usage restrictions, allowing customers to freely utilize it for activities like streaming movies, sharing photos, or engaging in video calls on platforms such as FaceTime. According to O2, this giveaway is a gesture of appreciation “simply for being on O2.”

The offer extends to all Pay Monthly customers, excluding those already on Unlimited plans or business tariffs. If you are on a standard monthly plan without unlimited data, you can expect to receive the festive freebie soon.

Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the significance of staying connected during this time, stating, “With this 10GB data boost, our customers can enjoy streaming festive films, gaming, or video calling friends and family they can’t be with. It’s our way of spreading a little extra cheer and saying thank you for being on O2.”

O2 estimates that the additional data could facilitate approximately 20 hours of video calls, streaming of 2,000 songs, or around four and a half hours of HD content on platforms like Netflix or Disney+.

This initiative aligns with Ofcom’s recent Connected Nations report, revealing a 10% increase in UK smartphone users’ mobile data consumption in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching a massive 1.2 billion GB per month. To put that into perspective, this is roughly equivalent to streaming 400 million HD football matches, a staggering amount depending on how you perceive it.
