People across the United States have taken to the streets in protest following two separate incidents involving federal agents. In Minneapolis, an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good, 37, sparking demonstrations in various cities and towns. Additionally, in Portland, Oregon, immigration enforcement officers shot and injured two individuals.
The protests coincide with the US Department of Homeland Security’s extensive immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Despite widespread criticism, President Donald Trump’s administration has defended the shootings, stating they were acts of self-defense against individuals who were allegedly using their vehicles as weapons.
Dubbed “ICE Out for Good,” many of the demonstrations targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The group, along with its local chapters, has organized nationwide protests in all US states. The Trump administration has deployed over 2,000 federal officers to Minnesota as part of an intensified enforcement initiative, with some personnel reassigned from a previous operation in Louisiana.
The incidents have reignited public outrage and shed light on the contentious issue of immigration enforcement in the country.
