Britons residing in 11 different regions have been advised to get ready with essential supplies as the Met Office has issued a “danger to life” weather alert for strong winds. The warning is set to be in effect from 9 pm tonight until midday on Monday, covering areas in Northern Ireland and Scotland where wind speeds may reach up to 80mph in exposed spots.
The Met Office has cautioned about potential risks of injuries and life-threatening situations due to flying debris and the possibility of large waves and beach materials being hurled onto seafronts. Additionally, power outages are anticipated along with potential damage to buildings and disruptions to mobile phone connectivity. The warning also mentions the potential closure of some roads and bridges.
Residents are urged by the national weather agency to prepare in advance for possible power disruptions by gathering necessary items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essential supplies.
In Scotland, a yellow rain warning is also in place until 10 am on Monday, highlighting the risk of flooding that could affect buildings and train services. The Met Office warns about the likelihood of power cuts and the chance of communities getting isolated due to flooded roads.
Rainfall amounts of up to 60mm are expected across the warning area, with certain areas like Skye, Lochaber, Argyll, and the Trossachs possibly receiving up to 110mm. The melting snow adds to the flood risk, prompting people to prepare an “emergency flood kit” as a precaution.
