The Met Office has issued a weather alert for 23 regions as a portion of the country prepares for intense rainfall.
A yellow rain warning will cover a significant area including London, South East England, and South West England starting at 9 am tomorrow and lasting until the end of the day. An approaching low-pressure system moving northeast across England and Wales is expected to bring continuous and heavy rain throughout the day, tapering off in the evening, as per the forecast.
Anticipated rainfall amounts range from 20mm to 30mm across widespread areas, with localized spots likely to experience 40mm to 50mm. The Met Office warns that heavy rain on already saturated ground may result in surface water flooding on Thursday. Travel disruptions are possible with potential delays in bus and train services, and longer journey times due to road spray and flooding.
Residents are advised to assess their risk of flooding and prepare a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit. Additionally, the Met Office recommends being ready for potential power outages by gathering essential items such as torches and a mobile phone power pack.
As of now, the rain warning is the sole advisory in effect for Thursday. Meanwhile, a yellow ice warning remains active across much of Scotland until 10 am today. The day is expected to start bright but cold in most areas, with some wintry showers in the north. Rain is forecasted to move in later, potentially turning into snow at lower altitudes briefly in the north. Clear intervals and showers will follow from the west.
Thursday’s forecast includes a mix of sunshine and showers in northern regions, while cloud cover and heavy rain will spread northward in more southern areas, with winds picking up in the southeast later in the day.
