The Met Office has advised residents in 51 areas to prepare with three essential items as snow is expected overnight. A yellow warning for ice and snow is in effect from 2 am to 3 pm on Sunday, covering Scotland and northern England. Snow accumulation of up to 10cm in low-lying areas and up to 20cm on higher ground above 200m is possible, with wind causing drifting and icy conditions.
The public has been cautioned about potential travel delays, stranded vehicles, injuries from icy surfaces, and power cuts affecting mobile phone coverage. To ensure safety, the Met Office suggests having torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack, along with any other necessary supplies.
Various regions including Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, and others are under the snow and ice alert. An amber warning for heavy snowfall has been issued for select areas for Sunday.
In addition, a yellow ice warning remains in place until midday in several regions, warning of refreezing snow, freezing fog, and wintry showers leading to slippery surfaces. Northern Ireland is under a yellow snow and ice warning until 11 am today.
Recent Storm Goretti caused power outages, travel disruptions, and school closures, with gusts reaching 99mph in South West England and flight delays at airports.
