Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to offer support during a tough season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has encountered challenges adapting to the team, dealing with an underperforming car and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent grand prix in Qatar, where he faced early elimination in qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place after a comeback attempt during the race. Currently ranked sixth in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton risks slipping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing frustration with his debut Ferrari season, Hamilton has described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite putting in immense effort on and off the track. Mercedes has been offering personal support to Hamilton, with chief communications officer Bradley Lord confirming discussions and even joint travels with Wolff to race locations.
Acknowledging Hamilton’s struggles, Lord mentioned the team’s empathy for the driver and their belief in his potential to bounce back. Looking ahead to the upcoming season, there is optimism that Hamilton can return stronger from this challenging experience.
Preparing for the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton aims to secure his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings, currently holding 152 points, closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points. This race marks the final outing for Hamilton in the current Ferrari model, which has presented numerous challenges.
Despite the tough situation, Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur has urged the team to persevere and strive for a comeback to victory. Emphasizing the need to learn from setbacks, Vasseur highlighted the importance of understanding and improving team performance.
Ferrari is eager to end the season positively before shifting focus to the upcoming 2026 campaign, aiming to address the current challenges and make significant improvements for the future.
