A significant highway closure is in effect as a consequence of local sewage issues leading to flooding. The M60 is currently shut anti-clockwise in Greater Manchester spanning from junction 17 to junction 14 on Thursday, January 15.

Scheduled overnight maintenance activities on the roadway have extended past the intended completion time of 5 am due to the unforeseen flooding incident. The area is anticipated to experience traffic disruptions, and an alternative route will be established.

The flooding, caused by a burst water pipe, has resulted in sewage water inundating the M60, as confirmed by National Highways. Specialized personnel and equipment are present at the scene, aiming to address the situation and mitigate delays until the road is deemed safe for travel.

National Highways has alerted about extensive delays on the busy motorway, with current traffic setbacks reaching 50 minutes beyond the anticipated flow. Additional specialized assistance is en route to address the sewage spill, with National Highways coordinating the mobilization of support.

Given the ongoing closure, traffic diversions have been arranged, as per National Highways directives, to manage the situation on the M60. The closure stems from a sewage malfunction incident, affecting the M60 anti-clockwise route in Greater Manchester between junctions 17 and 14, with flooding impacting the roadway between junctions 16 and 15.

National Highways specified that the flooding issue is a consequence of local sewage system malfunctions and is distinct from the planned maintenance works.
