Jockeys skillfully avoided a potential disaster during a recent horse race when they had to swiftly maneuver to steer clear of an approaching ambulance at Evangeline Downs in the USA. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this alarming incident that occurred on a Saturday night.
Typically, an ambulance follows horse races on the inside track as a safety precaution in case of any accidents involving horses or riders. However, in an unusual turn of events, the ambulance found its way onto the course during race eight at 8:35 pm at the Louisiana venue, just east of Opelousas. The eight participating horses and jockeys had to take evasive actions to avoid a collision with the vehicle as they navigated around the first bend, preventing any serious injuries.
The incident left spectators around the globe shocked, with renowned racing expert Kevin Blake expressing that it was one of the most frightening near misses he had witnessed. US racing journalist Ray Paulick also highlighted the remarkable reflexes displayed by the jockeys to avert a potentially catastrophic situation.
Fans were taken aback by the track commentator’s seemingly understated description of the event as a “little incident on the turn,” followed by acknowledging that the ambulance was not in its designated position. Track officials have initiated an investigation into how the ambulance ended up on the track during the race.
