An Iranian student was fatally shot in the head and laid to rest near a road. Rubina Aminian, a 23-year-old student from Tehran, participated in anti-regime demonstrations following her textiles class at Shariati College. Tragically, after the protests, she never returned home, and her body was discovered buried by the roadside later.
Iran Human Rights reported that she was shot at close range in the back of her head. When her parents journeyed from Kermanshah to Tehran to identify her, they witnessed numerous other young individuals who had been killed in similar manners, according to the group.
The death toll from the crackdown on nationwide protests in Iran has risen significantly, with activists indicating at least 538 fatalities and over 10,600 detentions. Among those killed, 490 were protesters and 48 were security personnel, with concerns that the toll may increase. The difficulty in obtaining accurate information due to internet and phone disruptions has complicated assessing the extent of the demonstrations from overseas.
The Iranian government has not disclosed overall casualty figures for the protests. Despite President Donald Trump’s warnings against violence towards demonstrators, no action has been taken thus far. Iran’s parliament speaker issued a warning that the U.S. and Israel could become “legitimate targets” if the U.S. attacks Iran over the ongoing unrest.
Following continued protests challenging Iran’s government, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf issued the threat, with reports indicating at least 203 deaths related to the demonstrations. Concerns persist about an even higher death toll. The blackout on information from Iran has raised fears that hard-liners within the security forces may intensify a violent crackdown.
President Trump expressed support for the protesters, suggesting that Iran is on the brink of significant change. Reports indicated that military options for a strike on Iran had been presented to Trump, but no final decision had been made.
