Iran has issued a cautionary message that the US and Israel could be considered “legitimate targets” if President Donald Trump decides to attack the Islamic Republic, raising concerns of potential escalation to a global conflict.

Demonstrations challenging Iran’s current ruling system have entered their second week, with protests spreading across major cities like the capital and the second-largest city in the country. Reports from activists indicate that the unrest has led to at least 116 fatalities.

Due to internet restrictions and cut-off phone communication within Iran, gathering accurate information from abroad has become increasingly difficult. Nonetheless, the Human Rights Activists News Agency based in the US has noted a rising death toll and around 2,600 individuals being detained in connection with the protests.

Amidst the ongoing turmoil, Iran’s parliament speaker has issued a strong statement warning that any American attack on the Islamic Republic could prompt retaliatory actions against the US military and Israel. This warning, delivered by Qalibaf in the Iranian parliament, was accompanied by chants of “Death to America!” by lawmakers.

Concerns are mounting internationally that the lack of information flow from Iran could embolden hard-line security forces to crackdown on protesters, despite Trump’s assurances of potential intervention to protect peaceful demonstrators.

Trump has expressed his solidarity with the protesters on social media, offering US support for those seeking freedom in Iran. Reports have emerged that military options for a strike on Iran were presented to Trump, although a final decision has not been made.

The US State Department has issued a stern caution against underestimating President Trump’s resolve, emphasizing that his statements are to be taken seriously.

During a live broadcast of the parliamentary session in Iran, Qalibaf praised the police and Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard for their response to the protests, declaring a firm stance against those arrested in connection with the unrest.

Qalibaf further escalated tensions by directing a direct threat towards Israel and the US military, indicating a readiness for preemptive action if provoked.

Despite the strong rhetoric, uncertainties remain about Iran’s actual intentions to launch an attack, especially considering past conflicts and the role of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in making such critical decisions.

The US military has confirmed its readiness in the Middle East to defend its interests and allies, following previous confrontations with Iran, such as the attack on American troops in Qatar last June.

Videos circulating online from Iran, possibly transmitted by advanced satellite technology, depict scenes of protests and clashes in different cities, showcasing the ongoing unrest and resistance to government control.

As the situation in Iran continues to evolve, with growing threats and crackdown warnings, the international community watches closely for any signs of further escalation or potential military actions.
