An individual allegedly overheard an ICE agent expressing indifference with a “boo hoo” remark following the shooting and death of a man in front of a group of alarmed protesters. The incident involved 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an intensive care nurse, who appeared to be restrained by federal agents before one of them discharged his firearm, fatally shooting the American citizen multiple times in a disturbing incident. A significant number of people gathered in Minneapolis to denounce the harsh immigration crackdown, which led to a widespread city-wide strike with numerous business closures. In the midst of the chaos, where Pretti tragically lost his life, demonstrators confronted officers after the fatal shooting, with an ICE officer reportedly responding callously to the distressed onlookers.
Following the shooting, a crowd confronted federal officers in anger, branding them as “cowards” and urging them to leave. In a dismissive manner, one officer retorted with a sarcastic “Boo hoo” as he walked away from the scene. Elsewhere, there were reports of agents forcing a protesting individual into a vehicle. Protesters resorted to blocking streets with large bins while chanting phrases like “ICE out now” and “Observing ICE is not a crime.” Confrontations escalated as ICE agents resorted to using flash bangs and batons on the crowd.
A gathering of hundreds assembled at the location of the nurse’s tragic death, displaying signs demanding “Justice for Alex Pretti,” while others chanted slogans in memory of Renee Good, a mother of three who was fatally shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Border Patrol commander Grey Bovino claimed that Pretti approached federal agents with a “9mm semi-automatic” handgun on the morning of the incident. Footage from the scene depicted the nurse recording with his phone while engaging with an ICE agent.
The situation escalated as Pretti was subdued by multiple agents attempting to pin him to the ground. In a harrowing turn of events, one of the ICE agents drew his firearm and fired multiple gunshots at the nurse. Shocking videos captured protesters reacting with screams and tears as ICE agents appeared to distance themselves from the victim’s body on the road, failing to provide immediate assistance.
The Department of Homeland Security released a photo of a gun purportedly belonging to Pretti, with Bovino alleging that the deceased individual possessed two ammunition magazines and lacked identification. Bovino insinuated that it was a scenario where the individual intended to cause severe harm and target law enforcement, without presenting corroborating evidence.
Pretti’s grieving family condemned the Trump administration for disseminating what they termed as “sickening lies” about their son, describing him as a compassionate individual. They refuted claims made by the administration, asserting that Alex was not armed when confronted by ICE agents, but rather holding his phone in one hand while attempting to shield a woman who had been pushed down and pepper-sprayed by ICE personnel.
