An American hunter narrowly escaped death during a grizzly bear attack thanks to a quick decision that saved his life. Chase Dellwo, 26 at the time, was hunting in the Montana wilderness with his brother when he unexpectedly stumbled upon a 400-pound hibernating grizzly bear.

Reports indicate that Dellwo was moving along a creek bed on a snowy and windy morning, attempting to drive a group of elk towards his brother’s position on a ridge. Startled by Dellwo’s sudden presence, the bear awoke just three feet away and immediately attacked him.

The bear swiftly knocked Dellwo to the ground and bit his head, roaring loudly. Despite the intense situation, Dellwo managed to remain composed. Recalling advice from an old article about animals’ gag reflexes, he bravely shoved his arm down the bear’s throat.

The unconventional move worked, causing the bear to release Dellwo and flee. Injured but alive, Dellwo reunited with his brother, who rushed him to the hospital for treatment. Dellwo received numerous stitches and staples to his head, along with injuries to his leg and eye.

Remarkably, Dellwo holds no grudge against the bear, emphasizing that it was a terrifying experience for both of them. Social media users hailed Dellwo’s courage and quick thinking in the face of such a dangerous encounter with a grizzly bear.
