A man, identified as James Saxon from Stockport, Manchester, displayed disturbing behavior while being questioned by the police regarding his extensive campaign of abusive control. Saxon was accused of isolating his victim from her social circle, monitoring her activities, and subjecting her to a prolonged period of manipulation and intimidation spanning three years. The victim, who confronted Saxon in court, revealed that his erratic and aggressive conduct was fueled by his frequent use of drugs like cocaine, cannabis, and steroids.
Evidence presented at Manchester Crown Court included harrowing CCTV footage showing Saxon yelling at the victim and neighbors, making threats, and displaying aggressive behavior. Saxon’s actions involved monitoring the victim, limiting her freedom, and using intimidation tactics to exert dominance. Footage from the victim’s doorbell camera was instrumental in highlighting Saxon’s erratic conduct.
Despite being on bail, Saxon continued to harass and intimidate the victim through various means, including social media, text messages, and in-person encounters. Reports indicated that his behavior involved verbal threats, emotional manipulation, and surveillance tactics. Saxon’s drug use reportedly led him to develop paranoid delusions, resulting in violent and unfounded actions, such as searching for a perceived rapist armed with a hammer.
The victim recounted distressing incidents where Saxon locked her in a room, refused to release her, and showed aggression following a miscarriage. Video footage released by Greater Manchester Police captured Saxon’s arrest and his demeanor, where he was seen laughing and making inappropriate remarks even while in custody.
During the trial, the victim spoke about the impact of Saxon’s coercive behavior, emphasizing the loss of confidence, safety, and independence she experienced. Saxon eventually pleaded guilty to charges of controlling and coercive behavior, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault, resulting in a two-year and three-month prison sentence along with a five-year restraining order issued by Manchester Crown Court.
PC Elizabeth Andrews from Stockport’s Domestic Abuse Team commended the victim for her courage in coming forward and urged others facing similar situations to report such behavior. She emphasized that the conviction sends a strong message that Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate such actions and will strive to protect victims and hold offenders accountable.
