Police in Mexico were shocked to find the dismembered bodies of three men inside six plastic bags left in a commercial complex in Acapulco Diamante region of Guerrero state. The discovery was made after reports and anonymous tips led officers to the scene at the Playa Dinamita area on January 9. The bags, found behind the La Isla shopping center, contained the heads and limbs of the victims. This incident is the latest in a series of similar discoveries in Guerrero.
Authorities have not yet identified the victims, and the bodies have been taken to a morgue in El Quemado. In a previous case in April 2025, federal investigators found plastic bags containing the remains of a single victim in Acapulco. The National Guard, State Police, Navy, and forensic specialists from the State Attorney General’s office were involved in collecting the victim’s dismembered body parts.
A threatening note signed by an unidentified criminal group was found near the body. Additionally, in Tecoanapa municipality, 11 murdered victims were discovered following clashes between rival gangs. Decapitations in Guerrero have been linked to the “La Barredora” gang, with past incidents involving severed heads and threatening notes. The motive behind these gruesome killings remains unclear.
Guerrero is known for high homicide rates, with a significant portion of Mexico’s murders occurring in the state. Most of these crimes are associated with drug trafficking. In 2024, the violence in Guerrero prompted Catholic bishops to intervene and facilitate a truce between rival cartels to help alleviate the situation.
