Gail’s bakery chain has officially announced that ten of its bakeries will be operational on Christmas Day. Additionally, the company disclosed that customers visiting these locations on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. All Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

In a social media update on Instagram, Gail’s stated, “Some of our bakeries will be open on Christmas Day for those out and about, offering a spot for coffee, bread, or a friendly face on a tranquil morning. As a token of appreciation, we will be treating visitors to a mince pie – while supplies last.”

Acknowledging the diverse ways in which people observe Christmas, Gail’s emphasized that their team members are empowered to make choices that suit them each year.

The company’s expansion plans include launching 40 new stores across England, with a focus on locations beyond London. Gail’s recently introduced 36 cafes in the past financial year, expanding into regions like the southwest of England. The upcoming 40 stores are slated to open by February 2026.

Financial data from the latest report revealed that Gail’s achieved sales of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year. However, pre-tax losses rose to £7.8 million, up from £7.4 million, attributed to business expenses and staffing costs associated with store expansions.

As of February, Gail’s employed over 4,000 individuals, with approximately 500 more staff members than the previous year due to recruitment efforts. The company also operates a wholesale division that supplies baked goods to various stores and supermarkets, including Waitrose and Ocado.

Gail’s signature sourdough loaf is priced starting at around £4.80, with the retail segment of the business recognized as the faster-growing and more profitable sector.

A spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the company’s robust growth and attributed it to the rising demand for high-quality, nutrient-rich food, as well as the support from local communities. The spokesperson affirmed a commitment to sustainable growth and enhancing access to quality food offerings.
