A man has been given a 30-year prison sentence for the murder of his daughter, accompanied by chilling text messages sent to his sons following the incident.

Ryan al Najjar’s body was discovered bound and gagged in a pond in a secluded country park shortly after she turned 18. Her father, Khaled al Najjar, confessed to killing her, citing concerns about her “westernized” behavior, which he claimed was influenced by her brothers Muhanad, 25, and Muhamad, 24.

Having sought asylum in the Netherlands to escape the conflict in Syria, Ryan’s mother Sumaia al Najjar and father made significant efforts to relocate their family. Tragically, eight years later, Ryan was tragically murdered due to her modern lifestyle, which her father disapproved of.

Evidence revealed that Ryan was still alive when she was submerged in the water, with Khaled’s DNA found on the duct tape covering her body. Shockingly, Khaled expressed regret for not burying her. The court also found the brothers complicit in the crime based on data retrieved from their phones and algae on their shoes placing them at the scene.

Khaled has since fled to Syria and is living with another woman. Despite being tried in absentia, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. His wife, al Najjar, is urging for his extradition. Ryan’s brothers were convicted for their involvement and received a 20-year sentence each.

Despite appearing integrated in their new country, tensions arose within the family over Ryan’s attire and behavior, leading to conflicts with her father. Allegations of abuse and fear towards Khaled were recounted by family members, describing him as violent and dictatorial.

Ryan’s defiance of traditional values at a young age caused friction with her father, who disapproved of her social activities. Family members described Khaled as unreasonable and aggressive, creating a hostile environment at home.

Iman, one of Ryan’s sisters, also shared her perspective on their father, labeling him as oppressive and rigid in his demands. She recounted instances of mistreatment and intimidation within the household, highlighting the volatile atmosphere created by their father’s actions.

Overall, the family’s struggle with cultural differences and generational clashes culminated in a tragic and senseless loss, shedding light on the complexities of assimilation and family dynamics in a new environment.
