A father described as “pure evil” has been found guilty of murdering his five infant children over a span of nine years. Paul Allen Perez, aged 63, was convicted by a jury in Yolo County, California, for multiple counts of murder and one count of assault on a child under eight resulting in death.
The convictions are related to the deaths of five infants, all under six months old, who were killed at various locations across Central and Northern California between 1992 and 2001. The case began to unfold in 2007 when investigators discovered the remains of a baby concealed in a canal in Conway Slough. The baby, identified as Nikko Lee Perez, was determined to be one of five siblings who had died under suspicious circumstances.
Further investigations revealed the identities of the other deceased children: Kato Allen Perez, Mika Alena Perez, Nikko Lee Perez, and Kato Krow Perez. Only the remains of two of the children have been located to date. Yolanda Perez, the mother of the children, detailed years of abuse and threats by Paul Perez, indicating that he had killed their first child in 1992 and subsequently murdered the others.
Paul Perez, already incarcerated for unrelated crimes, was charged with five counts of first-degree murder in January 2020. Yolanda Perez, who pleaded guilty to child endangerment, testified against him in exchange for reduced charges. Prosecutors alleged that Perez threatened his wife into silence after each child’s death, demonstrating a pattern of intentional harm.
Deputy District Attorney David Robbins emphasized Perez’s lack of remorse during the trial, calling attention to the deliberate nature of the crimes. Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig echoed this sentiment, denouncing the acts as “pure evil” and advocating for a life sentence without parole for Perez. The sentencing is scheduled for April 6 in Yolo County Superior Court.
