Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin. Cowell, aged 56, is rumored to be on the verge of losing his position following the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, the former head of Red Bull, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since departing in July.
After a turbulent Las Vegas GP, RacingNews365 revealed that Cowell was facing removal from his role at Aston Martin due to the team’s current struggles in the Constructors’ Championship, where they sit in seventh place, just eight points ahead of Sauber in ninth. The report suggested that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber executive, was a top contender for the role.
However, BBC Sport reports that Horner is also a candidate to succeed Cowell at Aston Martin. Horner, who left Red Bull earlier in the year, has been linked with various teams, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, but this opportunity could be his most significant since stepping away.
Rumors of Horner joining Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix but were dismissed by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans to involve Horner in any capacity with the team in the future.
If Horner were to return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who recently shared his thoughts on Horner’s career trajectory and changes over the years.
Meanwhile, at the Las Vegas event, Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured a crucial victory to keep his hopes alive in the Drivers’ Championship race, overtaking Lando Norris of McLaren. However, both McLaren cars were later disqualified, impacting the standings as the championship battle intensifies heading into the next race in Qatar.
