This season is synonymous with indulging in chocolate treats, whether for gifting or personal enjoyment. However, if you’re planning to purchase a tin of chocolates, be prepared for potentially higher prices than in previous years. During a recent supermarket visit, the cost of Cadbury Roses and Heroes caught many shoppers off guard, with both 700g tins priced at £16.50.

While a Nectar card can provide a discount, reducing the price to £10, it may still seem steep for some consumers. Fortunately, Sainsbury’s offers more budget-friendly options for chocolate tins, such as the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card, and a 750g tin of Quality Street at £13 or £8.50 with Nectar.

For those seeking even more affordable choices, tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street can be purchased for just £6 each. Shrewd shoppers looking for the best deals may want to consider Tesco, where 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street are currently priced at £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 without the discount.

Tesco also offers the Heroes tin, which is priced at £7.50 with a Clubcard, significantly lower than the £16.50/£10 tag at Sainsbury’s. The recent price comparisons of Christmas chocolate tubs across various supermarkets have highlighted Asda as the most budget-friendly option, with standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations all priced under £5.

Additionally, Morrisons sells these tubs for £7, or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card. Tesco continues to stand out with its competitive prices, offering Celebrations and Quality Street tubs for £3.95 with a Clubcard, while Roses and Heroes are available for £7 or £5.25 with a Clubcard. Aldi and Lidl are also catering to cost-conscious consumers by selling tubs for less than £5.

For shoppers exploring upscale options, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates ranging from approximately £4 to £10, despite not stocking traditional tubs on their websites.
